Dialpad still in business but way behind the timesThe first VOIP service I used was Dialpad, it was pretty cool at the time and calls to PSTN were free.
Had to use headphones but that wasn't too much of a problem. After using devices like the ATA and SPA however, headphones are just too inconvenient.
You would think Dialpad, a company that was previously innovative, would have matured with the rest of the VOIP industry. Instead, it looks like they still require headphones or USB handsets!
That's a shame because their rates look pretty good.
London 2.9¢ Mexico City 4.9¢ Beijing 4.5¢
If you were going to turn on your PC and use headphones though, you might as well use Skype. |

The rates you quoted look pretty typical, to be honest.
You are correct however, I would have expected to see them mature with the industry, or even be a leader, considering the head start. |

I'm sure there financial status hasn't helped them to continue to innovate. » www.google.com/search?hl ··· e+Search |

yea I used dialpad before to, but it never worked good, net2phone was allways better, but even they are way behind and seem not even to be targeting the consumer market anymore, they are just trying to get the cable compaies. CNBC did a tiing with them...I think net2phone and dialpad were the true starters of VOIP and now they are way being, even iconnecthere is ahead of tehm, allthough iconnect here really sucks.. |

I was one of the beta testers of Dialpad's new ATA service and it rocks for quality. I think it goes live on their site by the end of the month. They don't focus on the Vonage $35/mo. replacement phone service so they don't have a lot of the required features of that market, but if you're looking for using your own phone with the ATA for outbound calling, there is no better service, especially on international calls. Best thing is you only pay for what you use, rather than $35 per month regardless. |

any idea if dialpad will offer incoming calls from PSTN?
my 2cents to the debate on who was first.... I stil have a copy of net2phone 1.0 somewhere, from 1997 or thereabouts. Was dialpad before this? Around that time vocaltec (still in existence) also made user software (Internetphone) the windows version of which was also apparently video capable. Vocaltec never offered VoIP service and you had to use their software dialer & sign up with others such as pccall, deltathree (now iconnecet here) to actually get an account. The system was cool and you could call free (FWD style) to anyone else on line with the same software as well as calls to PSTN. I think that calls to the UK were about 10-12cents/minute as that time and call quality was kind of variable. I recall that I never had much luck with net2phone but both deltathreee and pccall worked just fine. At one stage dialpad made a beta version for mac os x which i never got to work well, but then there was a managment reshuffle (about 2yrs back?) and mac development was shelved. |

I have worked with quite a few people in a number of different countries over the last few weeks including a gentleman living the Bahamas who are using Dialpad with our residential gateway and a regular phone. Several of the then only had dialup connections available and have reported back that it is working fine down as low as the 19.2 kbps range. I've tried the Dialpad service myself using a broadband connection and it seems to work about as good as anything out there at the moment for placing outgoing calls. I understand incoming calling is supposed to be available from Dialpad within the next few weeks. |
