Re: The Broadband we were promised vs what we get now.

The situation for rural areas like Oologah is worse then in the city, that is for sure. I'm not sure when Cox took over from TCI/AT&T but originally TCI had began laying fiber about 6 years ago, but then stopped dead and did nothing for several years. Once Cox took over, they put the upgrade on the fast track, and are still doing it now (the upgrading continues). In fact it would appear the only reason SWB was in a hurry to bring DSL into Tulsa was was because Cox was moving ahead.

SWB was content to wait with TCI on hold. Remember that OKC had both Cable modem service about 2-3 years before Tulsa got anything. However, even with these 2 choices, it's still too small a pipe to live up to the hype of "The Broadband Future." New Edge does indeed offer another option now, like you said, SDSL but it's at rates that are geared towards business, as they have to pay a pretty big chunk of change to SWB for line access. I said I like to run a UT server or CS server every now and then, but there's no way I can justify the $400 a month expense for some occasionally gaming. Hell, even if I could justify it, I plain don't have the money, period.

Which is one reason I'm looking at property in outlying areas like Oologah and Cleveland.... It's so much cheaper out there then here in town... but no Broadband, and none soon, either.

Oddly enough, Bentonville, AR got cable modems a year before Tulsa did. If you're looking to move out to Oologah, Paul Allen is supposed to have cable modem service by December. So, you might want to look at moving out here around then.
