I ran with your coloring.. Great Job By the way.. I smoothed out textures to get rid of some of the pixelation from the original picture and deepened some of the colors a little..

Cool.

Check out Photoshop's "Noise-Median" filter some time. It tends to preserve and clean edges while smoothing the open spaces.
