anon posted : I have been having the same problem like everybody since October. Especially on peak times. And I think I am on speede01 (when i try tracert golden.net it starts with sppede01.access.golden.net). I have 1Mbit residential service.

The strange thing is when it slows down only download speed goes down. and I have extremely high (at least i think it is too high) upload bandwidth. i did not record the test results for last 15 days but in December once I got 220 kbps download and 1203 upload. Here are some examples:

2003-12-10 20:09:24 EST: 177 / 685
Your download speed : 177841 bps, or 177 kbps.
A 21.7 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 685048 bps, or 685 kbps.

2003-12-13 14:35:08 EST: 369 / 687
Your download speed : 369269 bps, or 369 kbps.
A 45 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 687521 bps, or 687 kbps

this is a new one:

2004-01-07 23:17:18 EST: 264 / 642
Your download speed : 264890 bps, or 264 kbps.
A 32.3 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 642054 bps, or 642 kbps.

i sent an e-mail to tech support while ago and this was the reply:

"The upload speeds quoted there are not (supposed) to be possible with a
residential account. There's a possibility that your profile is incorrectly
configured on Bell's end. I'd suggest giving us a call at the help desk and we
can check with Bell to see if there's anything that appears wrong on their end,
and if not run through some possibilities with you."

When I called them they told me that they were aware of that issue and it would be fixed by Christmas... Rest of the story is the same with everybodies'.

Do you think is it normal to have a high upload bandwidth like 600 kbps? And do you think is there any configuration problem?

Thanks in advance for any reply

anon posted : What I don't understand is that this is a message board it is supposed to be a forum for discussion of both good and bad aspects to an ISP. I see nothing wrong with several hundred messages of outrage from affected parties but to hear the sniveling support by others when they aren't being affected by it is a bit much. Why don't you offer your login and password to those that are affected and "try out" what it is like. The numbers of what users may have hit to be sequestered to Golden04 range from 20 to 30 gigs that is a huge difference. I think people are just pulling their hair out because they come to rely on a service which doesn't fail them all to often in the past and now they have some notion that something else is going on. Freedom of choice always exists but the argument is falacious, the inconvenience and financial burden, as well as email hassles new set-up etc are all part of added costs that should have been communicated to users. Golden reads these forums I hear time and again, I have to ask so what good does it have anyone supporting them on the site if all you are doing is reinforcing an 'us' versus 'them' mentality. If I weren't affected by Golden's actions I would still be furious and considering leaving there is no excuse for pulling the rug out from people, if a new policy or change in the norm for doing business is going to take place then have the curteosy of letting your customers know. I will switch ISPs now regardless based on the fact that I haven't heard squat from Golden, its a pain in the butt but I moved to Golden when Bell was introducing it change in policy which it announced well in advance - the way it should be done. Golden should be ashamed and anyone that supports the poor little ISP that could needs to be sneered at with the same derision. If everyone were affected your tune would be different its a shame you are too small minded to see that.

It's a totally different situation here; they throttle my speed PURPOSELY, by doing so they break our contract already (providing us DSL Speed). However, if you GO OVER 20gb/month then we will SCREW YOU UP with our SPEED THROTTLE TACTIC"

Sadly, we all know GOLDEN IS WATCHING this thread carefully everyday, but they don't got the GUT to admit their WRONG DOING or FIXING IT :( ,instead they are hiding like a chicken (bot bot bot). BTW, I'm really feeling sorry for Golden's Tech supports as they have to constantly LYING (i'm not blaming them, as they only doing their job and just saying what they been told to say). I bet they been busy lately with many complain calls, sigh ...

Then I read about speede04 issue with number of users and guess where I am stuck? They are lying and denying there is a problem at their end when you call yet from number of complaints it is obvious that there is a problem at THEIR end.

There is no conspiracy, if I see a shit and it looks and smells like shit then it is SHIT and I have no intention of keeping my mouth shut. I am speaking about MY experience which sucks and NOBODY who is hurt by this is getting compensated for substandard service which has lasted now for several months instead we are being lied to after all the patience and trust we’ve put in Golden over the time, of course I am peeved and angry and LOUD. And yes if speeds don’t improve by the 9th I shell look for a different ISP and then I shell be stuck with Golden till the end of the month since the least they could do is make it easy for those of us that have been stuck with their SLOW service for soooo looooong to leave. Until then I am gone stay LOUD and after I leave I shell stay LOUD so EVERYONE knows how much they suck!

I have no intention of making it easy on them, since I feel I’ve been lied to which I simply hate, unless they improve. Frankly you are NOT on speede04 so you can shove your opinion up your big butt cause I bet you’d be singing different tune if you were. Have a good day!

What would you feel if you find out you are being FORCED to a shitty server. Then you tried to cancel right away, but they won't let you. Isn't that a rip off, to pay for DSL but all you get is Dial Up speed, and LIES from GOLDEN. To be honest I don't mind the $35 wasted on dial up speed for Dec/Jan. However, I feel being TREATED DIFFERENTLY, and that's what piss me off the most. No we are NOT BASHING, we just letting the PUBLIC to known about the TRUTH to stay away from them. Wait till one day when they do the samething to you then you'll know how us (speede04 people) feel.

I will never recommend Golden to anyone if they can't go a year without this kind of screw up. To ask users to go weeks without service at below dial-up speeds is unaceptable. Golden is a total joke whatever good will I might have had is long gone. There are other providers that offer the same service at the same cost. I figure the new OC-3 buys a month before they go totally fubar when Bell upgrades everyone. For the past 2 weeks, we been placed on a sh*tty server PURPOSELY (which is FRAUD, since they REFUSE to give us the SERVICE we SIGNED UP for). If they don't give us what THEY PROMISED (high speed internet), then heck they should atleast give us the option to leave IMMEDIATELY, not contiunuing ripping our $$$ by charging us FULL PAYMENT and provide sh*tty speed.
