Speedstream 5100 PPPoA?

Just picked up an Efficient SpeedStream 5100 after briefly checking specs, thinking it would support PPPoA. Turns out there are two different 5100's: SINGLE ENET ADSL BRIDGE MULTIPLE VPI/VCI (which would work fine) and SINGLE ENET ADSL BRIDGE GENERIC US with a single VPI/VCI of 0/35 (which is what I got--yeah, I know, I should have done more checking) :-(
Is there any tweak, software, mod, etc. which will allow this modem to support PPPoA? I've tried RASPPPOE and EnterNet300, but haven't figured out how to access the modem directly. Is there telnet access or a browser interface for the 5100? Or should I throw it in the trash and buy a better modem? Thanks for the help.

How much did you pay for it? Where did you get it? Are you sure it's a PPPoE model? (I might be in the market if the price is right.)

There are three (3) types of 5100 Speedstreams:

1) Dumb Bridge Device (single or multiple VC)
2) PPPoE in Firmware Modem
3) Full Router

The Router Firmware supports PPPoA, PPPoE, and more:

Thanks for the information. I looked at Efficient's 5100 series specs pages before I bought this modem; there was no mention of the "dumb bridge" type, and I thought that I was getting a modem that I could modify by changing/upgrading the firmware. Unfortunately, what I got is the Dumb Bridge Device (single VC version). Is it possible to make any changes in the configuration or supported protocols?

Efficient's pages on the 3 types of 5100 Units:

The 5100 Bridge Upgrade to a Router option was pulled from the market (no longer available) over 6 months ago.
