Why is everyone leaving?From Wills,
Sorry I have to post this way, but none of my posts seem to make it to the boards.
What is going on here Justin? Yes this post is aimed at you. I think it might be time to look at your moderators. Either you have spurred something, or they have gotten to big for their britches.
They have managed to single-handedly kill the Sprint Fast Connect.
There was a post in the general forum about them locking another thread for what the poster though was no reason. The Mod said that he thought this promoted Bandwidth hogging and was unacceptable. However the longest running thread in DSLR is how to flash the Efficient 5260 into a 5660, which has damaged EN so bad that they have assembled a legal team to stop it. You for some reason, deem this acceptable. I'm not going to argue the point of who owns the modems or what, the fact is it's wrong and its still there. It's a double standard.
The Fast Connect forum thing started when one of your moderators told us a picture that we used was unacceptable. This is the exact same picture that a moderator uses in HIS forum to celebrate things and etc. We were told that kids might see it or that someone might not like it. Yet it is acceptable for a Mod to do it.
Another mod has posted in the Watercooler a "Post your favorite sidearm" thread. The Fast Connect forum was told the pic the showed wasnt good for younger people. And one of your Moderators goes and puts up this? With all the school shootings happening this was a totally irresponcible thing to post. Kids go in the Watercooler. Kids will see this. And this was put up by someone who was granted the responcible posistion of Moderator.
You have had people leave because you banned a person from the Counterstrike server. He was kicking everyones butt, was labeled a cheater and then kicked. He tried to state his defence, but the thread was locked. Instead of learning from this guy, you all just, without proof, labeled him a cheat and banned him. But hey, he at least got a responce from you, that's more than I have got.
Your people are killing DSLR. Either that or they are being spurred by you. But it needs looked at. People are becoming angry and leaving.
I'll be suprised if this stays up long enough to be looked at. Everything that I put up that proves a point against DSLR is removed. All of the post that I make myself are looked at, seems I've made the "Bad Guy" list. Anything negative about this place and it won't get posted.
Anyway, Justin the ball is in your court. |

In tonight's news, all 45,433 registered members of DSL Reports left. No one remembered to turn off the lights as they left, thus causing another blackout in California. In a related story, thousands of anxious citizens across the East Coast called in to 911 and various police and fire departments reporting what sounded like, in the words of one witness, "someone was beating a large animal, maybe a horse, to death." Thus far, investigators have not been able to figure out what happened. |

So, don't post anything negative! This is Justin's house. Would you walk into someone's house and start criticizing them because they put the sofa "that way" instead of "this way" or because they leave the toilet seat up? Hopefully you'd have enough culture, courtesy and decency to keep your mouth closed and moved on. Personally, I don't see any threads getting locked because of negative threads about the site - it's always how the comments are made. Again, this is Justin's house and he can run it however he sees fit. |

Wills take a breather. It's just a crazy time closeing in on summer and folks are just at odds.
I see it not just at DSLR but at some other Sites too. A Vets site just had a bit of a war awhile back. But recovered. |

That may be true (I haven't lurked around enough to see), but it is still the moderator's/host's prerogative to delete or lock a thread. If they do, so be it. If they don't, so be it. |

exactly. there are a ton of threads and not enough moderators to go around. if you see a thread go negative just vote it inappropriate and move on. just don't go back to that thread. it will be locked soon by someone with a level head. |

I thought we don't have negative voting any more because we were not adult enough to use it. How come SOME PEOPLE can vote negatively?? |

If I remember right, you can vote unregistered users posts negative, but not registered users posts. And since his post says unregistered from domain utelfla.com, that's why the negative votes. Don't know why they left that loophole in the voting method though. |

You are absolutely correct. Yet is it right when a moderator tells you that something you did is wrong, only to have another moderator do the exact same thing? No, that is a double-standard.
Is it right when a moderator warns you that something you do isn't appropriate for young eyes, only to do something even worse?
Is it right for a moderator to kick someone off of a server because he's whoopin everyone in a game? Not only that but, without a shred of proof, call him a cheater? Then say that even if he's not a cheater, he's still getting banned because he too good?
Sure, it's their house. Sure it's their perogitive. But is it right?
No its not right. It's not fair. It's not responcible, and it's not mature.
And yes, I do deserve a reply. Just because I dont have a ton of WU's and a kabillion posts doesn't mean I don't deserve at least half an explanation.
You can't have double-standards in your moderators. You can't have your moderators say "Don't do that" and then turn around and do the same thing. It leads to a lack of respect and the chaos this place has seen lately.
A Do as I say, Not as I do mentality is destructive. |

Look, people will come and people will go, I see no mass exodus from this place and even if it lost 10% of it's membership, that would be a drop in the bucket. It's the nature of the Internet, what starts off fun and simple, grows becomes popular and starts changing. It will always have members, it will always be popular, some people will leave, but more will fill their place, some smarter, some not as smart...life goes on. The negative voting for unregistered users still exists. My only problem with negative votes rested on those that could not handle a drive by negative vote and see it for what it was and ignore it..... |

You're right too Swinson. This place is still fun. I am leaving because of the way people are being treated. And the double-standards that have suddenly arisen in the Moderators.
I'm not the only one either. Look into all the forums. Sure, if 10% of us left it would on be a drop in the bucket. But why would you want even 10% of your population to leave? I wouldn't. As a responcible person I would at least ask those leaving why and see if there is room for betterment, or if their just being whinners. I haven't even been given that. I mean, a whole forum has basically dropped dead becaues of this and moved on to greener pastures.
If a whole forum leaves, a long with a handful of others that felt wronged, along with their true friends that support them....wouldn't that indicate a problem?
No, it's just us being whinners right? |

What exactly were you expecting? It sounded to me like your original post was directed toward Justin, and that it was Justin you wished a reply from. You might have done better to post your gripe with Justin via IM. Frankly, I think we're all a little sick and tired of this "issue"... Please, just take it up with Justin. |

According the the rules of this site, moderators do not have to discuss or debate why they locked a thread.
Yes, sometimes it may appear unfair or a double standard as you call it ex-wills. But since when did life become fair? If you don't like it, don't join in. It's that simple. |

Not "everyone" is leaving.
Justin has the right to run his shop as he sees fit. The Internet is a wide open space; anyone who decides that DSLR no longer suits their purposes and tastes can go set up their own website and say whatever they want on it.
A couple of threads get locked, and a few whiners go off the deep end. Big deal. We're better off without them.
I support DSLR, Justin, and all the Moderators.

this is why people think that others that are complaining are just being idiots... don't you think that they have already tried to IM justin?
They have tried, and he doesn't respond... he couldn't give a crap, the moderators don't respond to them either... it's nice for you to say do this, do that... but it doesn't work.
I get more disgusted with this site each time I read it... there are a bunch of kiss asses that think moderators are always right... but guess what, they ain't.

(Rant on) What complete crap that analogy is!!! Ya, DSLR is JUST like the Nazi's....please!!! Since when did a few threads being locked down equate to the killing of millions of people?? It's post like this that get the rest of us sick of all the whining!! (Rant off) |

Yeah, you're right, I'm just being a whinner.....
And the neat thing that it strikes no one as odd how a person with 600 posts goes from (hopefully) a respected member of the Overclocking, Hardware, and Sprint FC forums, to a whiner in one post.
I'm glad you all support this site. If this kind of treatment to the members is ok with you, then best of luck to you all.
I'm not voicing this for myself, contrary to popular belief. I'm posting this for the people I felt were wronged, and I'm posting it for the people that still respect this site. If it can happen to us, it can happen to you.
Yet, for looking out for all of you, trying to keep DSLR a great place, and keep the moderators responcible and fair, standing up for my friends, and my own beliefs, I get called an idiot and a whinner.
You can voice your opinion, just as long as its not bad and aimed at DSLR....God Bless America. |

Where does it say anywhere in this site that you're entitled to "freedom?" If you can find it, please show it to me. You're entitled to come in here, ask for help, provide help, post messages, have messages deleted or threads locked - all according to the guidelines of this website that are readily available for you to read at any time. Not once is there a mention of you having freedom to post whatever you want, whenever you want. If a moderator feels like locking something, so be it. End of story. Move on. I'm sure your life will not be permanently scarred because a moderator felt it necessary to lock down a thread. |

Hey Wills, It is good to see you again.
Come on guys don't flame Wills, he really was a respected member of the Sprint Forum (and still is if he comes back). This thread is worse than most of the threads that got thrown away. Wills raises a good point, are the members for the site, or is the site for the members? We all know the analogy that this is Justin's house but it is not a house, it is a community and communities change. The Sprint Forum may have been a downstairs bedroom that got a little carried away, but you don't start kicking members of your family out for horse-play. |

I must love the pain cause here I am. Wills, with all due respect to you PLUS the sheer fact that I have no knowledge of what went (which I won't go into)I saw you as a respected member of the Hardware forum. I do believe we discussed case modification at one time. I am a new HOST...only been what? 2 weeks and I have taken more SH*T in 2 weeks than I have very had to clean up with my 4 dogs. Peek ...I have been called names that you would not believe. Almost exclusively in IMs. From several of the very same people who are posting in my defence. What I am saying is that is something went on between you and someone else then you are pretty sure of those facts. But if something went on between 2 other people you can only really know what you have been told. A member editted one of my IM responces so it looked like I was replying to another subject. Just thought I would try to explain sometimes the picture is bigger. |
