Re: Comcast is making me go to all Digital Cable TI say that is about time all cable goes digital. I have had all digital tv with directv for over 2 years now. I love it. Cable going digital will make the picture better due to less compression of the signal and it will lead to more hdtv. Digital is the future, get over it. Also with cable going all digital, cable piracy will almost completely disappear. This will lead to something we have never seen in the cable industry, price decreases since the revenue that was lost to piracy of analog cable will be gone. That is a good thing in my mind. |

Have you ever thought about those of us that are on a fixed income? Digital costs more, more channels cost more, Digital boxes have to be rented(more cost), let's not forget the damned remote to control the digital box(that costs too), and doesn't the digital box need a phone line conected too(I know they used to)?
Two words....Screw That! |

Only if your cable system is in dire need of an upgrade. Most likely, the answer is no. Cable systems are two-way these days, so the box can just communicate over the coax back to the headend. |

Right. "price decrease". Funny, they failed to mention that when they called. THAT would have been a GREAT sales pitch! |

I agree. The digital channels are much better in PQ. I mean this is a good thing. You can now order PPV's again. You can use that "Handy" guide (sarcastically speaking). Once again we are doing this moving of channels to free up bandwidth for advanced services such as more HD, VOD and VoIP sooner or later. Look at the long picture. kcharg |

Re: PiracyPiracy is not the reason for high prices and/or lack of decreases. Lack of competition and poor upper-level management is. Most people DO pay for their services. |

Re: Comcast is making me go to all Digital Cable TI'm so glad I don't have Comcast!!!!! But to add to the conversation, charter switched us all to digital 3 years ago and we have been very happy with 400 channels and broadband and even got a discount which still applies 3 years later, but Charter is not Comcast....Thank Goodness... |

Don't count on cable rates to go down since piracy will be on the decrease. They will just keep the extra revenue for themselves. |

Sigh.
1. Digital does not necessarily equal 'good picture'. Unlike analog signals, which use a fixed bandwidth and no compression, digital signals can be compressed at the will of the operator.
2. Selling price for cable TV (and pretty much any discretionary purchase, especially entertainment) is established by what people are willing to pay - NOT by total revenue to the cable company.
If you believe that cable prices will go down due to lower piracy or for any other reason, you probably believed the record companies when they said CD prices would be lower than vinyl "once they recovered the cost of the equipment." |
