Re: [Wired] BEFSR41 Experts & Tech's Please

Yes , as I stated in my first post I'm on Sbc/Yahoo DSL which uses pppoe for authentication. The instructions for windows xp are above and I am going to post instructions for 95/98/98se/me below:

Setting a permanent IP address In Win 98/98SE/Win ME for Linksys Routers:
Find out your Primary and secondary DNS Server from your Status page in your router or Service providers website or by calling them.
Start/Control Panel/ Network:
In the Configuration tab scroll down to the bottom to TCP/IP (YOUR ETHERNET CARD)Netgear,3Com,Intel,Kingston...ect
Highlight it and choose Properties.
In the IP Address tab choose "Specify an IP Address"
IP Address: 192.168.1.x (X can be any number between 2 and 256)
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
In the Gateway tab in the "New Gateway" field enter: 192.168.1.1 and click "ADD"
In the DNS Configuration tab: Click on ENABLE DNS. In the Host field enter your initials. In the Domain field Enter your Service providers domain name: Snet.net,Comcast.com Verizon.net ....ect
Click OK at the bottom of the box, then click OK at the bottom of the Network Box...You will be asked to reboot.

Yes you need to use different numbers on each computer. I usually use 10,20,and so on. Let us know how it works for you.

Let me add that I noticed that the version 3 routers have a factory default Ip starting range of 192.688.1.100 ,I beleive (I don't have one here in front of me) but I started the computer IP#s at 120 0n these ver.3's if you see what I mean.

Well I was getting in event viewer(the IP address lease 192.dada for the network card with network address da da has been denied by the DHCP server 192.dada the DHCP server has been sent a DHCPNACK message. But it still ran great no disconnects no other issues. keep in mind I have disabled on router passthrus IPsec,ppoe,pptp,113 port forwarded, filter multicast disabled, filter internet NAT redirection disabled.upnp disabled.
