Re: IWE1150 question

szern,

They were ~60 in 10packs. I've played with a few atmel chipsets and the problem has been that they were selective in what they were clients to. Is this one universal and do you know the receive sensitivity?

Hi dongato17,

Sorry was away for a while, hence the late reply.
These ATMEL-based AP-Clients (there's an AP version and a Client version) run at USD 70.00 in packs of 10.
The ones I got were an OEM version. You can find some info here (»www.axis.com/products/80 ··· ndex.htm) for a version made for AXIS.
You can get some specs at this page (»store.redtreeunwired.com ··· ts_id=36)

I also took apart a unit (which had the built-in external dipole) You can see some pics here (»www.mamak.edu/~szern/wir ··· ess3.htm)
I've just gotten some new units (the ones with an external RP-SMA connector) and will try it over the next few days.
One of the problems I forsee is that it doesn't have RTS/CTS and ACK settings. *sigh*
Which is vital in a WISP environment. On the plus-side its pretty strong with 100mW maximum output power.

Hope this helps...

szern,

I have demo'd this unit before. It is actually carried by other vendors as well. The biggest problem with this unit is the receive sensitivity. As I recall, it was in the -72 range @ 11mbps. That would be the equivalent of a WET11 at around 8dbm output power.

They are stable and would work at very close range though.

Hi Hal,

This was the specs I found:
    Communication Method: Half-Duplex
RF Power Output:20 dBm (typical); 100mW
Receiver Sensitivity: -82dBm @11Mbps, PER<8*10-2
It shows Receive Sensitivity -82dBm @ 11Mbps, which should be pretty okay, right?

Well, it depends...

If it is the same as this:

»www.smc.com/index.cfm?se ··· 6&site=c

or this:

»www.netgear.com/products ··· 75&view=

Then unfortunately those specs are incorrect and it is actually in the low 70s.

I'll compare internal pics.
