This is strange. I have two connections to East right now using Agent 1.92 and yet using BNR2 and the same P/W combo, I get 502 Errors. Regards, Doctor Olds |

Yep, it looks IP dependent. For fun I tried another account and no difference. I use NewsPlex and can see east04-06 hasn't worked since about 3pm EST Friday. I haven't been using newstest2 but no response at the moment. |

Tried agent 2.0 east don't work (won't auth.), newstest2 don't work, west is slow. |

What makes me mad is a lot of people are having the same problem on the usenet forums, but there no earthlink rep there to read or do anything. People tried to email the reps, but have to deal with outsourced people from another country who have no ideal what to do. |

They fired Roberto aka just_robert with the last round of outsourcing so that doesn't surprise me a bit that now there is no Usenet presence. There wasn't a lot in the newsserver related groups and I've been reading them for a few years now (since 1998). said by The Joker: People tried to email the reps, but have to deal with outsourced people from another country who have no ideal what to do.
Email and "Live Chat" are a *total* waste of time. for this issue. Call and complain. Ask for credit while the service is unavailble to you. But that means "none of the servers" to me. So far West is working, right? Bopth West and East work for me when using Agent. You can't complain about Newstest2 as it's not a production server and it is only there when they are testing out different setups and it may or may not return. Regards, Doctor Olds |

I'm connected to the East FArm right now using Agent 1.91 and two streams. BNR2 will not connect to it though. I wonder what the difference is? Regards, Doctor Olds |

While there are a few Official techs reading and responding here this Forum is not an official Earthlink entity. It is hosted by a private entity (BBR) who graciously gives us a place to share thoughts, solutions and fixes.
Your best solution is to Call Earthlink on the Telephone.

HA HA HA, Yeah right, why you think I'm asking here.
They don't have even know what usenet is, and tell you to reboot your modem. Good luck finding an american to talk to. |

If they don't answer you on the actual server in the support newsgroups that are official, what makes you think their slight presence here in an un-official forum is going to get you anywhere? You call "on the phone" when the servers are down or mostly unusable to register your complaint officially with "Tech Support" and you have the right to ask for a tech in the Atlanta Office. Then after you register your complaint you ask to be transferred to "Customer Service" for a credit on the service being unusable or completely down. Now looking at my last 2 days (see image attached at top of this post) using BNR2 on a Fresh PC and I'd say 6 Gig's is pretty good for 2 days NNTP. My LAN has 6 PCs total. At least 3 are pulling NNTP while other run SETI and one I surf on. I control them all using UltraVNC without having to get up from the 1 PC I'm on unless I want to. Regards, Doctor Olds |

Well, you need to read the support group on earthlink on usenet, people have no way of reaching them by email or phone and they get the most idiotic responses know to mankind. There are reps here, I just saw a ElnkShaun, and some others.
It's sad when the consumer knows more then reps quoted from someone on the earthlink usenet. |

I've been reading the NNTP support groups (all of them, even back when there were dupes between EL and MS group functions) since before 1998. You might re-read my post again and then explain the numbers I've pulled in on 1 of my 3 PCs that is pulling Binaries for the last 48 hours. Regards, Doctor Olds |

This is a response from EarthLink Electronic Support. Hello,
I would like to receive some information from those of you that are having issues with connecting to our newsgroup servers. If you could run a trace route to the newsgroup server at the time you are having problems and send the results to me via IM. I will be able to take that compiled information and submit a ticket for the issue.

This is a response from EarthLink Electronic Support. Hello,
This is an update to the previous post. The information that would be most helpful would be the ip address that your computer is pulling, the time you are having the problem, the program you are using to download newsgroups, the exact error message you receive and your EarthLink email address. If you can provide this information, it will help me to narrow down what could be causing the problem.

Earthlink's NNTP servers and Border Routers (and web servers, et al) have ICMP turned off and trace routes (tracert in Windows) have zero value when the server drops them and doesn't respond. You can't ping them either. Regards, Doctor Olds |
