CDRW's and media:which one's is right for me?

I'am going to get a yamaha 16*10*40 CDRW. Do I need to get new CD-R's to replace my 'Prime Perpherials' brand cd-r? Or, will any old CD-r do?
Also, are there any known problems (coasters) w/ the yamaha CDRW?
-I currently have a Philip's 8*4*32 CDRW and i write @ 8x w/ no problems (besides that it takes 15min {at least} to copy a CD).

Thx.

if your CDr's are made for say 8x writers, I would be on the safe side and put your CD Writer to 8x. I have made a 8x CD on a 10x writer and no problems, but if you want to be safe adjust your CDRW speed. Don't know much about Yamaha, sorry

There was a time when the type of media mattered, where some burners preferred certain types of media over others. This, I believe, has changed. I pretty much buy whatever media is on sale, and I have made very few coasters as a result. I have even used older media I found in the closet in my newer burner with good results - no coasters. Drives and media manufactured within the last few years should be compatible. I wouldn't worry about it.

Stick with name brand stuff after you use up your current box(es) of CDRs and you'll be ok. I'd just avoid Memorex and Memorex OEM(ex: store name stamped on the box+CDRs) as I've heard and been told you may get more coasters or discs which fail quicker than the higher priced CDRs.... you get what you pay for in most cases

I've had luck with Imation(1x-12x), Maxell(1x-8x), Sony(1x-4x), and Fuji(1x-16x). I will suggest for long term data storage, stay away from the cheaper Imation CDRs which are always on sale, I ran a cd checking app and I've found some of my Imation CDRs having some read errors almost a year from when they were burned+checked w/o read errors... Imation CDRs seem to be better for music CD burning.
