Are you a native HiVolt? If not, I'd be re-considering those words,.. as your ancestors were once immigrants.

I am first Gen Candian. My parents emigrated here over 30 years ago. Although you'd never be able to tell form looking at me. I have been a victim of that attitude while growing up.

CBC had a link regarding the birth rate in Canada, stating that in 25 years time, unless we do have immigrants continue to move here, we 'citizens' will not have reproduced enough people to sustain a country.

...and a lot of them don't. Likewise, natural born Canadians have been known to abuse the welfare and helthcare systems from time to time.

From my experience its only Toronto Maple Leaf Fans, a masochistic lot, that abuse our welfare and healthcare systems, especially the mental patients wards and counselling after the end of every hockey season!!!

Hahaha.... Look at Scarborough and tell me I'm wrong... I don't think I'm racist, but I cant help to wonder what's happening around me, how good areas simply turn bad over the years.

I can't believe all the scandals lately in Ottawa. Canada will soon be known as one of the most corrupt countries in the industrilized world. I know someone will dig and poot stats from last year that doesnt include all the recent goings on in Ottawa.

I'm loosing my faith in Canada.

Ummm, I'm a first gen Canadian, my parents immigrated here. I have grown up all my life around Immigrants and their families, and I will tell you... they are amongst the HARDEST working people you will meet. Of course, theres always a few that ruin the reputation for everyone, but for the most part, they are honest hard working people. Many, like my father, work upwards of 12 hours a day, EVERYDAY, with NO holidays. I can't speak for all immigrants, but in my personal experiences, I have ::yet:: to see an able-bodied (and non-addict) Indian person on welfare... on TV and in real life.

Oh, and last time I checked, Health Care is used equally, it dosen't matter what your race is, if your sick... you want to see a doctor.

Hmmm... I am an immigrant. My mother was an immigrant in the country I was born. My father's parents were immigrants too.

I am a university professor. In my case, Canada is getting the benefits of an education it did not pay for. "Immigrants abuse the system" is just another of the rhetorical gimmicks racists use to disguise their biases.

Now, if you would excuse me, I'm off to abusing the system a little bit more...

I would agree with your assessment as well. Man, where I work it's full of immigrants, either the same employer as me or as clients. A lot of my friends are immigrants as well. They're all busy running their own business or up to something. Same thing when I was a production supervisor at another company. I find that many of them have much more drive, entrepreneurial, something to prove, that sort of thing. It's like they desperately want to fit into Canadian society and show us they're just as good or something.

The sad part though is I have known a fair amount of people who did abuse the unemployment or welfare system by working under the table, etc. but they weren't immigrants or 1st generation. They were regular Canadians who somehow felt that abusing the government was okay, that for whatever reason they were entitled to it.

Why do we need more immigrants.?

I thought that over population of earth was a concern of paramount proportions.!

Shouldn't we be encouraging the third world countries to depopulate.?

And if we attract all the skilled labour from these third world countries, how is it helping them (3rd world countries)? Shouldn't these skilled people being staying at home to help better their own people and country.?

For a country our size, the majority live pretty close to the US/Canada border. We still have a large amount of space that is un-used - not that it's a bad thing.

Define 'de-populate' in your view please.

A lot of the third world counties are aided by us in terms of teaching them to better themselves with farming technology we have eused for decades, and to try to help them become self-sustaining,... we aren't always successful, but we do.

I also believe we attract these people as we don't not have a civil every month, or use children to fight and kill. For those who can aford to immigrate, we are a big attractor.
