What are we waiting for?!?According to another article, just five DSL providers control 95% of the market, therefore, BellSouth figures must be close to that in their coverage areas. Now, they've raised their prices by $2.97 per customer, attempting to camouflage it with a title that makes it appear to be a government fee. They won't expand their coverage areas or upgrade to IFITL because they're being "regulated"? Gee, just imagine how great they'd treat their customers without any regulation, whatsoever...

No. That's wrong. The price will be $5 dollars more PLUS 2.97 regulatory fee.. so $7.97. If you're paying 49.95, it'll be 57.92

Re: What are we waiting for?!?I just got the DSL Xtreme upgrade from Ultra (which I've had for nearly five years). My cost is 49.95 plus the 2.97 fee. I have BellSouth Complete Choice, which reduced my basic cost by $5. The undiscounted price is $54.95. Plus, I get a static IP, which normally costs an additional $15.
Bottom line: I'm now paying $5 more per month for Xtreme and a static than I was for Ultra and no static. I've seen tested speed in the 2.5-2.7 mbps range. I'll probably installa homerun to the modem sometime this summer to get rod of the filters. I aso have my alarm and satellite systems on the same phone circuit, so that ought to improve the line to some degree.
I ordered the entire thing on line last Thursday. No appointments. Usign my original SpeedTouch home modem. Got the IP on Friday, and the BW upgrade was finished Saturday night.

With or without the $2.97 "regulatory" fee that BellSouth imposes, I find that the service is very stable and consistant. And whether I'm paying $45 a month, $49 a month or $55 a month, I found the price to be well worth it compared to the service I recieve each and everyday from BellSouth. IFITL is a very expensive technology and I do not blame BellSouth for not expanding their areas with it.

And here comes Canada to tune in their wasteless ideas. We really don't care WHAT Canada can or cannot get. Our economy is different, our companies are different. Our life style's are different. Price? I'm not concerned. I'm more concerned on paying $87 billion for Iraq. I'm more concerned on paying $2.00 dollars a gallon at the gas pump. $50/mo. is mickey mouse mouse for me. And in turn, for mickey mouse money I get 100% server.... Don't even get me started on Sympatico.ca... i'd take Bellsouth 1500/256 over any speeds Sympatico offers any day

Keep on posting, neighbor. I, for one, don't believe I have all the answers simply because I live in the U.S.

No one said we did. But there is no point on comparing what Canada has to what the U.S. has. so what in canada they can get 5000/600 for $32 dollars. In Japan they can get 10/10 for $26

You have been misinformed! In japan their connection is only 10/10 if their transfer is within japan, not wideworld!!! this mean if you are in usa, what they can send or receive from you maybe as slow as 10kb/s regardless of your connection

What the hell does the intercontinental link have to do with the actual broadband connection to the home? Sure, if the intercontinental links are congested, there will be latency issues and slowed transfer. You better believe that you'll see more than 10kbps if the link supports it. Great misinformation to drive this further off-topic.

I agree with Rob02.. we are not comparing Canada to the South right now. I dont give a damn what you can get and what not you are WAY OFF THE SUBJECT. I know the south is lacking far behind in technology and we could have an excellent broadband infrastructure LIKE YOU GUYS if BellSouth would just get their acts together but that was just stupid, my3cents. Trying to have a good day is already a challenge for me so dont get me fired up.
