[Free] The Best Free Disk De-fragmenter

Source of this is from a email

My top recommendation here has long been Diskeeper Lite V7, the last free version of the commercial Diskeeper program now at V10. Or so it seemed until I received this email from Vashek Weis. " I found Diskeeper Lite 8 on a CD
accompanying a new Intel motherboard and later when I checked for updates on the Intel site I found Diskeeper Lite 9! To get it you need to download the full version (89MB) of Intel Desktop Utilities. Once downloaded, run the exe to unzip its contents into a folder of your choice. In the directory tree created you will find these folders: .../3rdparty/Diskeeper/and .../3rdpartyDiskeeper.64/. Works great and the new Performance tab is excellent. In the Readme_EN.txt and in the License Agreement I didn't find any rules prohibiting downloading and using this program (on a single computer), therefore I am assuming there aren't any. Please note that both on my desktop
and on my laptop the installation failed unless I uninstalled previous version of Diskeeper Lite." Great find Vashek and thanks for writing. Windows 2000 and later, 89MB http ://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/software/idu/

NTI Backup Now 4.0
Wow, a free version of NTI Backup Now 4.0 too! It feels like Christmas!

[EDIT] Here is the legal info about downloading and using this software:

The materials at this Site are copyrighted and any unauthorized use of any materials at this Site may violate copyright, trademark, and other laws. You may download one copy of the information or software ("Materials") found on Intel sites on a single computer for your personal, non-commercial internal use only unless specifically licensed to do otherwise by Intel in writing or as allowed by any license terms which accompany or are provided with individual Materials. This is a license, not a transfer of title, and is subject to the following restrictions: you may not: (a) modify the Materials or use them for any commercial purpose, or any public display, performance, sale or rental; (b) decompile, reverse engineer, or disassemble software Materials except and only to the extent permitted by applicable law; (c) remove any copyright or other proprietary notices from the Materials; (d) transfer the Materials to another person. You agree to prevent any unauthorized copying of the Materials.

It appears as long as you download, install and use software from the Intel site on a single PC and in a non-commercial environment, you're within the agreement (as mentioned in the original post).

Heheh...I agree Howie. Pretty cool.
I've been using NTI Software for quite a while and have always liked it. (In particular NTI CD Maker on one of my older Computers).

Again, nice find Microsoft 98 See Profile

Thank you so much Microsoft 98 for sharing this information.

I had been using PerfectDisk for a while but when I tried to defrag an Acronis TrueImage 3GB .tib it hung on "optimization" for almost 3 hours. I could hear noises coming from inside the external HD where this file was located.

Enough!!!! I went back to Diskeeper Lite version 7.0.414 and waited a few hours to "calm" the drive down.

Then I defragged and all is well.

Yes, both Diskeeper and NTI Backup don't care who makes your motherboard...

To use the other utilities you need an Intel motherboard (I assume they all use Intel CPU's).

I think dadkins See Profile might have the record for most software installed.

F drive
I have 190 installed.

Archived? Unknown...

Some of these in F drive have other directories and/or multiple versions inside of them.
This does not include server in N.C.
I've had to store "items" offsite, HDD was getting to it's limits.

You might say I got a few...

EDIT: Also have a "couple" of CDs and DVDs burned as archives.

Did I mention this is a laptop?

Unfortunately, it does not work with non-intel based boards. Since I built this box from parts in the store, the only Intel device on board is the processor. I am disappointed.
