Re: Just got 30/5 & digital voice with two modems?

"one of the non D3 modem will keep on trying to connect continously that will result to extra noise in the line. Without a doubt this setup is contributing to the OP not getting the full speed he's paying for."

Really. Outstanding troubleshooting.

Here is a speedtest from my Extreme D3 Ubee modem. As you can see it sits right next to a Arris MTA.

No Continual connecting, no noise, no issue with my speed tests.

Thanks

Hehehe I can see your ARRIS brand MTA, it does not have lights, is it even plugged in? You will definitely have a good speed cause the installer knows who you are.
Kidding aside, can you post the MTA's logs? We will definitely see the errors from there.

Ok thanks, nothing unusual with your log but it shows it tried to get an ip from the DHCP server although it's not much. However, your event log doesn't look like it came from the MTA modem. See pic of mine. Can you check if you mistakenly took the Ubee's log instead. Also I'd like to see Justin024's MTA(SBV5220) logs if he can since his is a Moto, so yes, Justin if you can please post your logs? Thanks.

I'm at work now but I will when I get home later tonight. Can you tell me how to access the event long?

Update to my original post: I was only able to hit 30mb/s when I connected the D3 modem via ethernet. *rolleyes*. When it was wireless the most I could get *consistantly* was 9-15mb/s; however my upload speed has always been able to get 5mb/s. Should I just disable the internal router and use my own? My router does have WPA2 and I don't feel safe using wireless over TWC's router.

Please advise.

Thanks,

Justin

OK...so the issue is not really a speed issue its a wireless issue!
What kind of adaptor is your machine trying to use? A "G" or a N""

Okay thanks that would be great. As how it is connected right now you will not be able to access the MTA(sbv5220) as is, as it is not connected to your network. I don't have this setup but you might have to connect an ethernet cable from your pc to the phone modem directly then assign your pc a static ip of 192.168.100.x where X is 2 or greater. This I assume the phone modem's ip is 192.168.100.1. Now you can try to access the modem through your browser by typing »192.168.100.1 Please do this without booting the modem, otherwise the log will be reset. Please post back if you are having problem.

If your using the same pc to do the speed tests then your wireless is limiting your speed it could be the wireless station or your pc's wireless drivers.

Yes, it is safer if you control your own network and please do use WPA2-AES. If you can do it yourself, set the modem in bridge mode, disable wireless or TWC might have to do it, they might not let you access the modem. Also, you can test the wireless speed from your wireless router, if it doesn't get close to 30Mbps then you need to upgrade your pc's wireless drivers if there's one. I assume your router is a wireless N model to accomodate your service speed, otherwise, it will be difficult to achieve the max speed. Additionally, if your pc is only capable of G speeds, then the maximum speed you can achieve is around 25Mbps. Good luck!
