Intel's First Wimax Chip
'Rosedale' emerges, trials in 2005
"We try not to talk too much about [Wimax]" recently claimed Intel's Sean Maloney with a straight face, his company pushing the technology at every possible opportunity. This week finds Intel shipping samples of their first WiMax chip, dubbed Rosedale, which will be used in technology trials in 2005. Based on the 802.16 standard and featuring a 30 mile delivery radius, Intel hopes the technology will someday be an alternative to DSL or cable - though it's expected to first play the role of backhaul niche technology.

Health issues

Does it fry your brain? I mean with 30 mile radius it should output enough energy for it to be unhealthy.

Yeap, only up to 107Mhz. The WiFi is in a Ghz range, closing to microwave specs.

Microwave and waves of the similar frequency excite water molecules and heat up flesh. More power is used for such a high frequency (Ghz), it might very well show microwave like behavior. When the subject is exposed to a very prolonged exposure, the subject develops cancer. With up to 30 miles with minimum signal loss it should vent lots of energy.

Do you listen to the radio? Do you stick your head in a microwave? Do you want anyone to microwave you? Will you enjoy it as much as listening to the radio?

Re: Health issues

It will pose no threat to human saftey. Trasmitting in the GHz range does not require the wattage a microwave oven offers, not even third of the wattage.

On occasion, I do listen to the radio, but I don't generally make a habit of listening to my radio at the top of the radio station's tower in close proximity to the radiating antenna elements. . .

That'd be nothing in comparison to a Ghz shower.

Re: Health issues

i could think of somthing more painful then being cooked like a potato in a microwave, or being exposed to raidoactive rock. telling you what that is, is by special demand only.

well sence canada dosen't really have a huge limit on transmission band (well upto the unhealthy point) we could get it up here.

and running wires (antenna) in the area in the ground or tieing it into the power system and using that as a transmitter would bring down the amount of power needed (see copper is still your friend)

Popcorn maker too!

It also helps make popcorn, allows use of a removable defrost shelf in most devices (yes what was formerly a spare hard drive shelf is now all set to defrost or even cook your dinner, extensions fo the X86 instruction set for cook time will be announced shorty, rumors of an extended autocook chipset have already started!). Not to mention warm beverages will never again become cold! Heating costs will be greatly reduced, with water being heated in every molecule of anyone in a 30 mile radius people will enjoy winter in summer attire! Snow will melt without salt, snow blowers and plowing will be things of the past!

One of these in a laptop can cure overpopulation by the jet / train load Heck repeated passes long a 30 mile radius from commuter lines will likely cause regions of sterility Shielding from these units is likely to be the next big area for Intel to see growth in

That made me grin! Too bad it mostly impacts large, fluid-dense organs nearest the outside of the body: brain, kidney, liver would be my guess. Gonads are fairly well concealed & protected by thighs - especially in the seated position. In a car the thing up and exposed is the head.

Joking aside, I too worry about the explosion in EMW pollution. No one source concerns me but the cumulative levels do. Nobody really knows what the aggregate health impact will be and there is too much money to be made for our greed-worshiping culture to not roll all this stuff out.

Re: Popcorn maker too!

think how fast you could kill a large amount of people within that radius if you jacked the power on it beyond spec (with an overload limiter on it so it stays functional) you could toast all the people within range and use anyleftover power to increase the transmission distance to the other processors giving them instructions to do the same off it's powergrid and keep going from there ........... DUDE INTEL IS MAKING W.M.D'S ! THAT DON'T DISTROY BUILDINGS JUST TURNS PEOPLE TO PILES OF SKIN BONE AND GOOP !(scarasam.... i think)
