I don't see it in Bellsouth countryI checked through bellsouth.com for the Atlanta area and they only have 768k / 128k for $19.95. No thanks. I'd rather hold on to my Comcast 6000k/384k for $33 a month for the next year.

Re: I don't see it in Bellsouth countryi want to add a correction to the previous post: while it is true that in Puerto Rico you don't pay FEDERAL taxes, the local (state) taxes are more than double of the U.S. State and Federal Combined (i am a CPA, so i am familiar with both tax systems). also this year there is SALES taxes on everything - including food and groceries - unlike on the US where the groceries are not taxed.
regarding the "free" military, Puertorricans have served in the military and died in all wars since beginning of last century (after Jones act was established March 2, 1917)

To ease the tension about not seeing the rate for $10 when logged on to www.bellsouth.com a valid telephone number has to be entered that does not already have DSL service. This is for new customers only. The website will quote the rate of $19.95 or $24.95, does not matter. Once the number is entered and the cutomer continue with the process it will give you the option for the $10 option...........

AT&T $10 DSL TodayThe story states it isn't advertised anywhere. It is probably one of those deals that you have to call up and ask specifically for this deal.

Dear FCC and FTC is this what lobbying buys?So they introduce the plan at their leisure.
They don't make it readily available.
They say it's for "new customers" only.
And you don't make them stick to it for more than 2.5 years.
Why bother? Why didn't you say, "do it now, and make a plan that is forever and costs 50% of the cost of your mid-tier plan"?
That's ok we understand... it's tough making tough deals when you are wined and dined by these corporations.
Let's just spend tax payers money to break up the monopoly and then spend tax payers money all over again to "oversee" it's rebuilding with petty short lived compromises like this one.

As the footnote 2 on page 1 of the agreement states As used herein, the "AT&TBellSouth in-region territory" means the areas in which an AT&T or BellSouth operating company is the incumbent local exchange carrier, as defined in 47 U.S.C. §251(h)(1)(A) and (B)(i). "AT&T in-region territory" means the area in which an AT&T operating company is the incumbent local exchange carrier, as defined in 47 U.S.C. § 251(h)(1)(A) and (B)(i)
Which I read as ALL ATT customers (that would be new to ATT DSL) I'm just kicking myself for not being patient by 5 days as I just signed up for my first ever DSL with another company. I thought I had interpereted the agreement wrong and thought it was for areas that previuosly didn't have any DSL available from ATT or Bellsouth. Yeah and the $15 vs $10 differnce over a year is $60 which I know for you latte drinkers ain't nothin but for me it's something!

Which I read as ALL ATT customers (that would be new to ATT DSL) I think you can not say ALL ATT customers that would be new to dsl. The hook is that it is in the states where at&t is the ILEC. at&t is a CLEC in a number of locales as well and this offer would, in theory, not apply there. Kinda makes sense though because nothing assures at&t they would be able to buy from the ILEC at a price that would allow $10 to the customer.

Exactly, our Federal Govt is so dysfunctional for the last 20 some years for anything except cooperate greed. PS: Edit, if I put in a Gainesville, FL (closest Bell South to me) it comes up $19.95 for 768 tier one. They must have a sweeter deal with the FL Public Service Commission or someone in the state. Check it out, enter 352-376-xxxx on their site, which is a very old Gainesville NXX exchange.

If you read the agreement,» 72.14.253.104/search?q=c ··· lnk&cd=3 this is exactly what it said. To be implemented within 6 months (July 1) to continue at least 30 months. I also interpreted the $10/mo to be applied to buildout areas which as far as I know are areas that didn't previously have DSL but I am not a lawyer.

Re: Dear FCC and FTC is this what lobbying buys? Thanks. www.fcc.gov/ATT_FINALMergerCommitments12-28.pdf is th e PDF (the google link will stop working after a while.) This may help customers who can't get DSL now: By December 31, 2007, AT&T/BellSouth will offer broadband Internet access service (i.e., Internet access service at speeds in excess of 200 kbps in at least one direction) to 100 percent of the residential living units in the AT&TBellSouth in-region territory. 2 To meet this commitment, AT&T/BellSouth will offer broadband Internet access services to t least 85 percent of such living units using wireline technologies (the "Wireline Buildout Area"). AT&T/BellSouth will make available broadband Internet access service to the remaining living units using alternative technologies and operating arrangements, including but not limited to satellite and Wi-Max fixed wireless technologies. But it seems that it won't be, as there's no pricing on the non-wireline service. So big whoop. E.g. it's no help if I can get WildBlue through them, for more than I'd pay WildBlue directly. It'll be interesting if folks who get the $10 service get billed the usual BS add-on fees (beyond the usual applicable taxes and regulatory fees) that normally get tacked on, despite the commitment herein. So who's ordered it?

Oh, and by the way... I thought this "deal" made with ATT was to offer DRY LINE DSL.
As in NO land line required. Is that what this $10 deal is?
Not that I can see. | |

Stand alone DSL has been available in the old 9 state Bellsouth area for the past month. Call up and ask for Bundle 90 or Bundle 97 (97 requires you have Cingular to bundle with it, but it gives you $5 additional dollars off your cell bill which will be combined).
And the $10 deal is for all 22 states and no it isn't advertised - you have to click on the link for "term contracts".
BTW, $10 for a 768K connection with the price set in stone for 2.5 years isn't enough for you? Comcast is charging me $29.99 per month for a 300K connection and if I want it to be faster it will cost $55.
Also keep in mind DSL Lite prior to June 1st was 256k and $24.95 per month. So cutting the price by over 60% and tripling the speed and you're complaining? What a jackhole.

|
| |
Re: Make a package for naked dsl.I agree completely; if this was $10 a month for naked DSL, period, I think it would be an awesome deal. While I wouldn't go with it, myself, it could get a lot of people who can't afford DSL (or won't switch to it because dial-up is still cheaper, usually at $10 a month) to get it...but since you have to get the landline...meh, you might as well get their 1.5 meg tier. Oh well....I'm sure it'll still come in handy for some people.

it is 15 for mewhat a croc. it is 15 for me. I doubt the merger conditions meant you would have strings attached. Maybe next time if they were selling cars they could sell you one car for 10,000 but you have to purchase a suv for 10,000 also. It may be reduced price but you have to buy something else.

Link to $10.00 Lineshare DSLWhen I went to the att.com site and clicked on the internet deals, on the bottom tight hand side there is a link that asked if I want to learn how to get DSL for dial up price. When you click on it it brings you to a screen that asks if you've had DSL in the past 12 months and if you are currently a dial up customer. I said no to both and used a relatives home TN (they don't have DSL) and it came up with all the speed tiers, including the $10 package. » swot.sbc.com/swot/promoL ··· nding.doAT&T YAHOO! HIGH-SPEED INTERNET: Residential AT&T Yahoo! High-Speed Internet customers only. Basic speed ($10.00) available for new customers only. New customer is defined as not having AT&T Yahoo! High Speed Internet or Bell South High Speed Internet in the past 12-months. Purchase of local service from the applicable AT&T incumbent local exchange carrier required. This is a limited time offer and is only available for AT&T Yahoo! High Speed Internet.

Why only a year for new customers?Should they have been forced to offer the 10 dollar to whoever wants it for as long as they want. Otherwise what is the point in making them offer this? Plus was 14.99 that expensive anyways?

Re: Good priceI'm just waiting for the "Free basic DSL for all eligible landlines in the ILEC regions of at&t."* *must have local landline and must purchase a modem for 49.99 plus shipping and handling. Then have the naysayers... "Why should I have to have a landline to get the free DSL, I mean come on already" or "How come I can only get the basic package for free? I'm only 2,000 feet from the central office, my line can handle way more than that!" or "Why do I have to buy a modem, I mean they can't be that expensive. Can't they just give them away???" or "I'm not in range for DSL, so what are you gonna do about it? How about pay for my cable HSI???" (little bit o' sarcasm)

Wow, the news people need to get a grip!If the agreement was 12-04 of last year 06, then july 4th, would be the date in question now wouldn't it?
I guess even the news people can't get it right?
Ya know if you consider yourself a "quality site" it starts with accurate reporting! Something this site seems to take for granted.

I give upFor 2 years I have only been able to get the 1.5 package which averages 600-900 down. I have been hearing I had a distance problem the entire time and upgrades promised. I felt I would hang in there waiting for the AT&T price drop. But after hearing this good bye is soon. I've been paying $32.99.
Charter cable while a lousy cable company has a promotion of basic cable and 3.0 internet for $29.98 a month for 12 months. At least while it works it will be faster and cheaper. AT&T obviously isn't going to do anything. Charter has a 30 day money back guarantee. I'll keep AT&T that long to test their service.

bs dealNot only is $10 nowhere to be found, but for some strange reason the standard slow 768kbp speed (which is the one supposedly offered at $10) does not seem to exist when a variety of faster and much more expensive speeds are readily available. Kind of when my cruddy Stop & Shop has something on sale but has none the first (and every day thereafter) of the sale.

Re: modemDespite the different claims I've read, their term agreement says there is no rebate unless you are a current AT&T or BellSouth dial-up customer who wants to upgrade to DSL: » www.bellsouth.com/consum ··· pop.htmlIts catch-all is that the term deal is ineligible for promotions except the dial-up upgrade. If you live in the bellsouth area (which it verifies by checking the phone number you have to give) and apply through the www.bellsouth.com website, it will ask you two questions up front: 1) Are you a current BellSouth or AT&T Dial-up customer? (it will ask you for an official email address to verify your account) 2) Are you a current or former BellSouth or AT&T high-speed Internet customer? The first question I'm pretty sure is to qualify you for the rebate deal, while the second (dis)qualifies you for the $10 1yr-term deal. I haven't actually tried since I don't have their dial-up and the $75 modem is a deal-breaker for me. If anyone was still able to get the rebate, please post your story here. Also, does anyone know if their DSL is bittorrent-friendly (I mean, they don't throttle it or anything do they?)
