Popular FoxFi App Suddenly Not Working on Verizon Monday Nov 23 2015 12:30 EDT FoxFi, an app used by grandfathered Verizon unlimited wireless users to tether devices, has mysteriously stopped working. Complaints over at XDA Developers and in the Google Play store indicate that the problem has persisted for several days. Users have historically used the app to avoid Verizon's $30 tethering fee applied to user accounts, which many complain violates the conditions placed on Verizon's 700MHz spectrum. Many of the users complaining about the problems say they've tested FoxFi on numerous devices on the Verizon network with no avail: quote: As of right now, I have personally verified this with at least 11 family members and co-workers/friends from different parts of the country. All have the paid version of FoxFi and Verizon Note 5 on unlimited data plan. Hotspotting just stopped working within the last 48 hours.
Many worry that Verizon is trying to crack down on tethering among unlimited data customers to drive them to metered plans. These users are already annoyed given Verizon's recent decision to bump unlimited data customers' bills by $20 per line. I've reached out to Verizon for confirmation as to whether they're doing something on the network level to disrupt FoxFi and so far the company only tells me they're looking into the complaints. |

This is still dumb...Tethering isn't a feature. It's a function of the software. That'd by like saying Facebook is a feature.
Data is data regardless of how it is used. When are carriers going to get this. Yes, a tethered device is going to use more data, but customers are given allotments, or billed.
VZW should just give up, grandfathered unlimited users are a lucky bunch and they shouldn't be treated like dirt. VZW made their bed and they should keep up their end of the bargain. | |
