Rogers Slightly Raises Bandwidth Caps
Also Bumps Speeds on Several Tiers
About a year ago, Canadian cable operator Rogers lowered their usage caps on several tiers. Since then, Netflix has launched its streaming video service in Canada, bringing attention to the way these caps can be used to disrupt video services that compete with existing company TV services. There was also a political explosion, as consumers became outraged at the ever-tightening usage noose. According to user discussion in our forums, the Rogers noose has loosened somewhat this week, with the company raising caps and speeds on several tiers slightly. The company has offered this chart to break down what's changing:

What are the prices for those 4 tiers?

Anybody know what they are charging for each of the tiers listed in the chart?

Looks like Extreme or Extreme Plus is the new sweet spot for best value.

I was on Extreme Plus and never got above 18 Mbps on speed tests.. ever. Youtube would buffer on 320 video, and Netflix was claymation.

Moved to Teksavvy cable, and routinely get 22 Mbps on the same speed tests, no buffering, and HD crystal clear on Netflix. Crazy speeds my rear end.

I would love to see your face while you are typing that statement, there is just no way you can keep it straight while typing that.

Wrong.

Sure seems like it by your statements. Considering I've gone though nearly 280GB in the last month due to downloading a remote backup, and recovering other crap. Oh and I pay $7/mo less on Teksavvy then I do on rogers, and get a 300gb/mo cap to boot.

Sweet spot my ass.

There's probably going to be a price increase in the near future.

so 100 bucks for 250 GB a month.
If i was living in an area served only by Rogers or Bell, i would've moved out already.

I'll take my 5 mbit unlimited vs any of that crap any day of the week.

Re: What are the prices for those 4 tiers?

Here's the problem. This is pretty damn near uniform across the country unless there's another ISP buying connections to their headend. Or have their own remotes. Canada is divided up by a few ISP's, all serving the same thing. So if you were going to 'move out' somewhere else, it would either be to a major US city, some place in Asia or Europe.

Hmm..

Notice how they slightly bump the Express speed but keep the caps the same?

IMO the Express package is what most people will go for, and most people I know have, mainly just due to price.. no one wants to pay $60 when they are casual/average users

Basically they are trying to push people to the higher tiers = barely any increase in cost for them so much higher profit margin

express sucks..

go figure that express doesn't get a increase at all...

time to change to a cable isp that services my area, since teksavvy only serves "the center of the universe" (toronto) and ottawa

Re: express sucks..

Apparently for $5 according to openmedia who called rogers you can add 20GB.But I imagine nobody will tell the reps that

Re: express sucks..

It depends on the rep and which department you are in, if it's anything but retentions, forget it, they are the only ones who can offer this and not every single rep there even knows about it. That being said, I got this plan months ago when it was introduced and the rep knew something about it before I called. Granted though he had to double check with someone else before he could add it to my plan but it does work.

Of course now it's useless because with that add-on I was paying almost $60 (including taxes) a month for Express with an 80GB cap. Switched to TekSavvy Cable and for about $42 (including taxes) a month I have a 300GB cap and the exact same speeds.

Rogers is a joke

Compared to shaw's plan increase these increases are nothing. Not really any shock tho rogers UBB requires caps to be so pathetic you can go over them 2x over in a day....

Bitching helps.

I was paying about $80 for 150Gb/month because I bitched a while back on the phone, so that was the deal they gave me. I called them up recently to bitch again ... so they knocked off $5, and gave an extra 100Gb ... so that's $75 for 250Gb/month. Not bad.
