Suddenlink Launches New $65, 300 Mbps Tier

Back in April Suddenlink users in our forums noted that the cable operator was cooking up a faster 300 Mbps tier, though the company wasn't specific about price or upstream speeds. New information indicates the new 300 Mbps down, 15 Mbps upstream, is being offered first in Leander and Pflugerville, Texas, with Georgetown, Texas getting the faster tier later this summer.

Amusingly, Suddenlink took a few shots at both AT&T and Google Fiber, who both have announced plans to deliver 1 Gbps to Austin, in varying degrees of comprehensiveness.

“Based on public reports and additional research, it appears AT&T U-verse has cherry-picked where it will offer its service, while Google Fiber is nowhere to be found," said Suddenlink senior director of operations Michael Naumann. “In contrast, we’re making our 300 Meg service available to 100 percent of the residential areas we serve in these communities.”

SuddenLink's offering the tier for $65 per month to new customers only; the company does have usage caps but has yet to specify what the cap on this new tier will be. The company's 50 and 107 Mbps tier currently sport a 350 GB cap with $10 per 50 GB overages.

Logically

If the 50mb/s cap is 350GB, then logically the 300mb/s cap SHOULD be 2.1TB. Why offer 6 times the speed if you don't offer 6 times the cap? 2.1TB is a reasonable cap with those speeds, and I can guarantee you most of their customers won't hit it. The REALITY dictates that their cap will probably be closer to 400GB. What's the point of HAVING 300mb/sec if you can USE THE ENTIRE CAP in about 3 hours? Even at 1mb/sec, you could still get to the 350GB cap in a month.

60% of the time, it works everytime!

These cable companies are past the point where they can't be taken seriously. I just became a Suddenlink customer, and in a span of 7 days (calendar days), they've managed to disconnect my service once, overcharge me on the installation fee, and slam me with an HD TV package I never ordered (I watch animation domination, which comes crystal clear through an antenna the size, shape and width of am 8.5''x11'' sheet of paper).

The other option is Centurylink, which at 3 mbps at the same price isn't an option anyway. Too bad we can't even vote with our wallets, 'cause the choices are pitiful.

N.C. is the very same state that saw not one, not two, not three, but FOUR (4) TWC/AT&T sponsored bills making municipal broadband illegal, and making it near impossible for anyone else to deploy.
