T-Mobile Now Offers Netflix Free on Some Plans

T-Mobile today unveiled a new promotion that delivers free Netflix service to select customers. According to the T-Mobile announcement, T-Mobile ONE family plans will now come with Netflix -- at no extra charge. Again, you'll only get Netflix for free if you're signed up for the newer T-Mobile One plan (not any older family plan) -- and you need to pay for at least two lines of service. These plans offer "unlimited" voice, texting and data starting at $40 per line for a family of four.

T-Mobile states if users on these plans already have a Netflix subscription, T-Mobile will pick up the tab.

“While the carriers spend billions on their franken-strategies to cobble together carrier-cable-content mashups, the Un-carrier just leapfrogged them all by partnering with the best and giving it to customers at no extra charge," states T-Mobile. "Because that’s what we always do. Give more to you without asking more from you.”

T-Mobile again took the opportunity to criticize AT&T and Verizon, noting that both companies' network speeds dropped slightly after competition from T-Mobile forced them to bring back unlimited data plans.

"Since the carriers launched unlimited earlier this year, AT&T and Verizon customers have seen their network speeds plunge as their networks struggled to keep up with increased data and video usage," jabs T-Mobile. "Verizon recently reacted by capping ALL video speeds."

The promotion doesn't begin until Tuesday, September 12. The company's full announcement and the video below offer a litle more detail.

Why?

Just stick to being a phone company and lower the price by the amount you’re paying Netflix.

Price increase

2 lines used to be $100 now it's $120. So know you know how they are paying for it. Also single people and old people no free Netflix for you.

Single line people

Once again people with single lines get nothing.

This is getting close...

To convincing me to move to T-Mobile One from my Simple Choice 10GB plan.

Current:
5 lines 10GB/line, $140/month, $167 with taxes/fees, Unlimited through 2019, 4G LTE tethering (up to a handful of GB)

T-Mo One:
5 lines unlimited, $180/month, $180 with taxes/fees, Free Netflix ($10/month savings), 3G tethering

It is now within $3 of my current plan, plus the parent control thing T-Mo offers for free to One customers.

But that tethering....

Meh.

It's certainly a cool move from marketing prospective but it is definitely not an" uncarrier" move- it's the typical bundle. I could not care less about Netflix.
And what about single people? I am perfectly fine with my 55+ plan without Netflix but t Mobile has to start catering to 55 minus singles because they have been really short changed lately.
