Verizon To Offer Broadband Wireless Bundle Discount
New 'Flex Double Play Bundle' to launch next week...
The Associated Press has the scoop that Verizon will begin offering a "Flex Double Play bundle" starting some time next week, giving users discounts ranging from $8 to $12 a month if they bundle a Verizon Wireless plan with DSL (3Mbps tier only) or FiOS (20Mbps tier only). Like AT&T, the death of traditional landlines has Verizon instead embracing wireless/broadband bundle discounts. "We remain very bullish on the traditional copper-based phone service, but we also recognize that there's a growing segment of society that wants to have wireless as its principal home service," says Verizon spokesman Bill Kula.

More Bundle Discounts?? AAAARRRRGHHHH!!!

Why do I see myself spending countless more hours on the phone to get Verizon's billing problems resolved with this deal???

And Verizon doesn't even offer their 20Mbps tier in all FiOS markets, how are they going to work that one in??

That was my first thought. I'm leaving well enough alone.

Hmm soo...

Let me get this straight:

I'm probably paying Verizon upwards of $60 for that cell plan and same for the Fios...

And for my $120 a month they will cut me a $8 break?!!! Oh goodie yes Im sold!

The deal is for DSL only. You don't have to have a landline. It's for people who still need High Speed Internet and use their cell fones for calls. So if you plug in the fone..there is no dial tone but u still get the internet signal. and the wireless and dsl charges come on one combined bill (no landline fone charges or teaxes w

The interesting: First Telco to not force POTS for discount

This is a new change in direction for Telco offerings.

This is the first offering where a discount or bundle is offered that DOESN'T force a POTS landline on you.

In other words, you can get a bundle that is Wireless+Internet+TV for example.

This is a change in thinking, and a realization that they can't go on "protecting" their POTS revenue in the face of Cable competition.

Verizon isn't perfect but of all the Telco's they seem to "Get it" a lot more then the others.

They don't get it

Their landline biz wouldn't be dying if they weren't charging $7.50 for caller ID, bullcrap $1.50 stay out of the phonebook fee and my favorite, the you didn't use enough long distance fee.

Not really a discount

It seems they are actually raising the prices for dsl, for customers who don't have their wireless service. If you do have a verizon wireless plan, the prices remain the same for dsl.

Is FIOS phone service considered a 'landline'

Their wording sounds seems a bit vague

POTS is definitely a landline. What about FIOS phone service that I get as part of my triple play plan?

We also have VZ cell service. Am I not qualified for the discount?

Thanks

Re: Is FIOS phone service considered a 'landline'

For those interested, here is the link to the News Release straight from Verizon:

»newscenter.verizon.com/p ··· and.html

Short version: you need to subscribe to a national calling wireless plan with at least 450 minutes to qualify AND the 3Mb DSL plan OR 15Mb FIOS minimum.
