 | Again, good eye contact with the camera. I enjoy the crop that you've given this and think it makes it a much more intimate photograph, giving this a more emotive connection with the viewer. The black and white works well, though the color v was nice also. A bit of tweaking with curves might give this more punch, contrast-wise.
Hindsight being 20/20, it's easy to point things out that we might have overlooked and could be improved on. However I think you're heading in a good direction with your venture into portrait photography. Well done.

 | When I look at a portrait the first thing I do is look at the eyes and the expression on the face...to me that is more important as a view than the techie stuff.
